KATHARINE N. BROOKS

Katharine Brooks has been involved in the art world for over 20 years, with a specialization in Latin American Art. Born in Guatemala and fluent in Spanish, she attended St. George’s School in Newport, Rhode Island and earned her B.A. from Bucknell University.

She began her career in the gallery world at Mary-Anne Martin Fine Art in New York, before transitioning to the dynamic auction environment at Sotheby’s. Katharine ultimately found her niche at Christie’s in the Latin American Art department, where she worked for nearly a decade, becoming a Specialist and Associate Vice President.

During her tenure at Christie’s, Katharine gained extensive experience in all aspects of the auction process— working with some of the foremost collections to come to market and engaging with the global art market through domestic and international art fairs. By building relationships with collectors, dealers and specialists across the United States, Latin America, and Europe, she gained direct access to prime collections.

Katharine is highly qualified to understand the needs of collectors navigating the art market and the process of collection building. She has maintained close relationships with colleagues and specialists across different fine art departments, conservators, and foundations - an extensive network she draws upon to best serve her clients.

Committed to continuous learning, she has expanded her knowledge through supplemental courses at MOMA and holds a certificate in Contemporary Art from Christie’s Education.

Since moving to Charlottesville, Virginia, she has dedicated herself to the local non-profit and creative arts community. For several years she has chaired the Women’s Initiative’s annual silent art auction and has joined the board of Second Street Gallery, a 501(c)9 nonprofit dedicated to providing education, community outreach and support for emerging and established artists.

Katharine lives with her husband, three young daughters, and two rambunctious little dogs. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, tennis, Mahjong, needlepoint, visiting family in Guatemala, and seeing as much art as possible!
